HEEELLLLOOOOOOOO MY FRIENDSSSSSS long time no see. I’m back on the blog! To start the year off, I’d like to share with you some photos of an intimate dinner I had at R.C. and J.C.’s beautiful apartment. It’s actually pretty awful of me to do this to you because the dinner was effing amazing and you’ll… never actually get to have it.
You see, Chris Lee, R.C. and J.C.’s good friend, is about to head to California to open a new Nobu, and before his move across the country, he decided to cook a simple meal for his friends themed “Decadence.” And LAW and I were lucky enough to be invited.
The meal started off with a Lobster Cocktail and White Sturgeon Caviar (looking at the menu I stole from dinner because I definitely can’t remember the fancy shmancy names of all these delicacies) with smoked sablefish, creme fraiche, and a baguette from Maison Kayser – which is Chris’s favorite baguette in the city! This caviar was super smooth, lightly sweet, and with juuust enough of a punch to make it a delicacy. Ugh I’m drooling writing this.
Chris also made us some truffle butter, you know, just so we could finish up the bread.
Yup, delicious. Continue reading
My good friends A.H. and A.C. both work at OrderAhead, an exciting food startup that is coming head to head with Caviar. Those of you who don’t know, these are food delivery startups that, well, deliver food to you. Unlike Seamless, they deliver food from places that don’t typically offer delivery services, places like ABC Kitchen, BCD Tofu House, and Taverna Kyclades. I’ve been hesitant to try these services because of the added delivery fee but my friends gave me some delivery credit so I obliged. What I came to learn is that $6 isn’t so much, especially if you’re splitting it with a friend. Physically getting to a lot of these restaurants would take way more than that. As much as I like a great meal out, I am also a homebody who loves enjoying food on my couch. Prior to OrderAhead, if I wanted to order in I would have to settle on overly-sweet-Thai-food or fishy-sushi (not the good kind of fishy…) or mediocre pizza. The time for shitty takeout is over! Smell ya later Chinese takeout box.
LAW and I ordered from Umami Burger because I’ve never had it before, don’t care to ever go out of my way for it (because Shake Shack is my one true love), and because it doesn’t typically deliver to us. I placed my order from the OrderAhead app, which is simple and pretty intuitive to use.
Service was also pretty impeccable for delivery. A couple minutes after I put in my order, I got a call from OrderAhead about a specific dish request I had. I also got a text from the team telling me the delivery man, Takwaun, had picked up my order and was on the way. I read that they are working on getting tracking available for your order so you know exactly where it is. Very helpful to know my order isn’t just sitting around! Especially when I’m hangry (which is almost always right after I put in an order). Continue reading

This is a late post, as you can tell from my box. I went with some coworkers on Valentine’s Day for lunch because we decided that since we were indulging in chocolate all day, might as well go all out with a heavy, greasy grilled cheese for lunch. I rarely order grilled cheeses because I feel like it’s something I make quite well myself. It’s all about having good bread, decent cheese, butter, and a panini press. The last time I ordered a grilled cheese was when I was at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery, and everyone knows that is a must-try. It turned out good but just as good as my own… anyway, I gave Melt Shop a try since I love specialty restaurants.
E.D. and I both ordered the Truffle Melt ($7.95) with havarti, arugula, cracked black pepper and truffle oil on sourdough. I remember distinctly it was freezing that day because the guy working the takeout window kept closing the window as soon as someone placed their order. Nonetheless, he was very cheery and told me to have a sweet valentine’s day. Continue reading
