This place is truly a magical place for me. Every time I eat here, the whole world pauses for me. Time just stops. Everything I have tried has been exactly what I craved. Either the kitchen at Pearl is just really, really good at matching to my tastes, or they have learned to dictate my tastes.
Last night I went for a little celebratory dinner. We had the steamers and the fried oysters for our apps. The steamers were warm and extremely fresh. You take the little guys out of their shells and peel off their socks, rinse them off in a broth, and dip them in a bucket of warm melted butter. The taste is the definition of good seafood. It’s very fresh, sweet, and cooked so lightly that you still get a hint of the sea. According to Wikipedia, steamers are essentially soft-shell clams. These clams are enjoyed by not only human predators, but also sea otters, crabs, and seagulls.
The fried oysters were good but definitely not as good as fresh oysters. Of course, they are still delicious. I would compare it this way… Fried oyster to fried chicken nugget is like truffle to white button mushrooms. I just happen to not like fried things as much.
The fish was stuffed with garlic and rosemary. The skin was grilled to crispy perfection and the flakes were very apparently infused with the garlic and rosemary. The vegetables were delicious (though not quite as good as Robataya’s grilled vegetables).
The lobster roll is, of course, the crowning jewel.
